Over the weekend we were lucky enough to sneak away for a quick trip to queensland, always fun to look at orchids and learn more about them.

The most interesting things for me where:

Temperature and Humidity in the low lands of Queensland at this time of year (end of March) it was stifling! 30 degrees and around 80% humidity with no wind was almost unbearable and more humidity that we often have in our orchid house here in Melbourne – More work on humidity needed….

Growing Cymbidium canaliculatum, even though were were in an area where canaliculatum grows naturally growers stated they could not grow it as their conditions where too wet and too humid (i guess once you have an enclosed space the conditions change from hanging on the side of an old Gum out in the bush) advice to us was to grow it dry (both from a watering point of view and humidity) I am going to move ours a breezier spot where it will get plenty of Melbournes dry air blowing in as opposed to its currently location which is hot but quite humid.

Here are a handfull of happy snaps – a paph and a couple of catesetum species 😉
